Request AppointmentWhat Is the Optos optomap?
The Optos optomap is a noninvasive, ultra-widefield retinal imaging technology. Unlike traditional retinal exams, which provide a limited view, the Optomap captures up to 200 degrees of the retina in a single image.
This technology allows our team to closely examine the retina for early signs of eye conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy, helping us protect and preserve your vision.
Your Retinal Imaging Experience
With the Optos optomap retinal imaging system, you can experience a fast, comfortable procedure that captures a wide 200-degree view of your retina in seconds. Traditional retinal imaging only covers about 45° (or 15%) of the retina at once, but optomap offers a much more comprehensive view.
During the procedure, you will simply look into the optomap device, which resembles a large camera. You may notice a series of flashing lights as the machine captures detailed images of your retina.
The entire process is quick, takes less than a minute, and painless, making it safe and comfortable for patients of all ages.
The Benefits of optomap Retinal Imaging
Early signs of serious eye conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachments can be detected long before symptoms appear.
The optomap offers other benefits, including:
- Comfortable & quick: The ptomap scan is comfortable and takes just seconds to complete.
- Noninvasive: The Optomap allows us to conduct thorough retinal exams without the discomfort of dilation, making the process stress-free for our patients.
- Baseline tracking: By keeping a record of your retinal images, the optomap allows us to track changes in your retina over time, making it easier to detect subtle shifts.
Getting the Complete Picture of Your Eye Health
At Professional Eye Care, we pride ourselves on staying at the forefront of eye care technology. The Optos optomap is just one of the many tools we use to help our patients receive a high standard of care.
